During the terrifying month of October I'll be posting an original monster design every day.

October 1st – River Watcher
The story of the River Watcher is an obscure part of the folklore of several countries and is thought to date back to the twelfth century. There are some variations in the tale but generally someone is out walking near the river when they come across a decrepit old man whose features are mostly hidden by his dirty robes. The old man ignores everything around him as he lazily shifts the water around as if reflecting on something. When the old man is approached there is a sudden blue flash and the unfortunate victim finds themselves looking up at the old man from the river having been turned into a fish. Moments later the old man vanishes and the tale ends. Some people speculate that the story of the River Watcher is a simple moral tale guarding against excess curiosity whilst others believe it is based on the character of Culvec the Blue found in the book “Tales of Hills and Streams”; a romanticized account of Spain in the Twelfth century.
